Fellow Haverhill Residents:

Great news!  Starting the week of July 5th, expanded curbside single-stream recycling will be available throughout the city.

That means that you will be able to put all of your recyclable items:  paper, glass, plastic bottles and metal cans, right at your curb.  “Single stream” means you can put it all into one container.  You do not need to sort the materials.

You can continue to use your recycling bucket, but you do not have to.  You can use a regular trash barrel for recycling, so long as you clearly label it for recycling.  You can use the sticker which is enclosed, or you can use any label.

You can recycle paper, cardboard, bottles, cans and plastics number 1 through 7.  The enclosed brochure has been provided by a private volunteer group, Team Haverhill, and contains all the details.

This exciting new program starts the week of July 5th.  We are going to continue to pick up your trash every week and pick up recycling every other week on the same day that we always pick up the recycling.  When it is your day for recycling, just leave all your recycling articles out in one container, no sorting required, and we will pick them up at curbside.

Here’s the best news of all: recycling pays for itself.  For every ton that we recycle, the City will save $56!   The more we recycle, the more we all save.  The money we make helps to keep our vital services intact and helps to keep your property taxes at a reasonable level.

Join the Mayor’s Recycling Challenge!

You can help our environment and help our city at the same time.  If every family would limit the amount of trash to no more than two barrels per family per week and recycle everything else, we will keep our city green and clean, and save tax dollars.

If you have any questions, or if I can be of service, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Very truly yours,

James J. Fiorentini
