Composting Program Information

Drop-off of composting material is at the Highway Department, 500 Primrose Street, Haverhill.

The Compost area is open Wednesday 8:00am - 3:00pm and Saturdays 8:00am - 1:00pm. The Compost area is closed during the winter months.

The City of Haverhill Compost program accepts leaves, grass, and brush.

Please help keep our compost pile clean by making sure your grass and leaves are free of trash and debris. Grass and leaves can be dumped loosely or in biodegradable paper bags. All plastic trash bags must be emptied and removed from the site by the resident.

Brush should be no larger than 4-foot lengths and 2 inches in diameter. Brush must be dumped loosely. No biodegradable paper bags.

To Purchase a Compost Sticker/Pass

Residents can purchase a compost sticker at the Highway Department, 500 Primrose Street, Haverhill - Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 3:00 pm and on Saturdays from 8:00 am – 1:00pm.

RESIDENTIAL STICKERS MUST BE AFFIXED TO THE VEHICLE ON THE LOWER LEFT CORNER OF THE WINDSHIELD. For a replacement sticker (for new windshield or new vehicle) you must turn in previously purchased sticker. LOST STICKERS WILL NOT RE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE.

Fees for disposal of brush, grass and leaves are as follows:


Individual Residents:

$45.00 annually (sticker) Or $9.00 per day pass

Senior Residents:

$30.00 annually (sticker) (Age 65 or older) or $9.00 per day pass

Commercial and Non-Resident:

$44.00 per cubic yard
