Haverhill Recreation Department offers a variety of programs over the course of the calendar year. We believe that "recreation" isn't confined to just physical activity but rather any event where participation can benefit the development of a particular skill, knowledge of a subject, or engagement with others in the community. With this belief we try to offer activities and programs that aren't just related to sports. Our programming is not specific to any individual age group and we welcome any suggestions for new offerings. Visit our "Volunteers" page to learn more about submitting program requests.

Outdoor Rinks: Ice rinks are set up around the City during the Winter months weather permitting. In 2022, we built on on Plug Pond for use on the naturally occurring ice.
Esports: Players compete against other cities and towns in Massachusetts for great prizes. This is a year-round program and is offered for a variety of games and platforms. All ages welcome.
STEM: Various topics including robot building, engineering, and coding are offered in a hands on atmosphere. Youth ages 7-14.
Boys and Girls Lacrosse: Boys and Girls participate as part of Massachusetts Youth Lacrosse's "Classic League" competing against teams from other area programs. This is open to all skill levels and backgrounds. Players will play 8 games and attend the MYL Jamboree at Fort Devens. Grades 1-8 eligible and runs in the Spring (March-June).
Winnekenni Yoga: Weekly classes during the week at the meadow of Winnekenni Park. Instructors incorporate music and a friendly fast-paced atmosphere. All ages (under 16 with parent) Spring/Summer/Fall.
Wilderness Education: Learn different survival skills at local parks! We have operated Shelter building, Crafting, Fishing, Animal Tracking, and Navigation to name a few. Ages 8-14. Runs periodically throughout the year.
Flag Football Clinics: Each session focuses on a different position as kids develop a love for the sport of football in a safe environment. Ages 7-14. Spring.
Field Hockey Clinics: Designed with a beginner in mind, the objective is to learn basic skills and learn about the sport of Field Hockey. Grades 3-8. Spring.

Tennis Clinics: Learn Tennis from high school coaches and players at Winnekenni Park. Multiple skill levels are available to help a player progress through more advanced techniques. Ages 8-16. Summer.
Hillies Over the Hill: Adult Women's Slow Pitch Softball League operates on Friday nights at Riverside Park. Ages 27+ May-August.
Weekday Coed Softball: Tuesdays Thursdays from April-September. This is for adults only at Riverside Park.
Boys' Lacrosse Clinic: HHS Coaches run a clinic or youth Boys in the to help sharpen skills and develop existing ones. Grades 1-8. Summer.
Pickup Soccer: A collaboration with Haverhill Youth Soccer, this free program is for any age to participate in one of three public parks once per week. Summer.
Coed Fall Lacrosse: Coached entirely by high school players, this brings boys and girls together to hone skills without needing full equipment. Players use smaller nets and softer balls in order to put more emphasis on fun. Fall.
Youth Field Hockey: New and returning players are welcome to play in a fun clinic-like practices with scrimmages against neighboring towns and an end of season Jamboree. Grades 5-8. Summer/Fall.
Fitness Classes: Participants learn how to exercise properly throughout various types of classes. Ages 8-16. Operates periodically throughout the year.
Babysitting: Students will learn the ins and outs of babysitting in order to safely care for children. This includes emergency management, first aid, and basic snack prep. Ages 11-16.
